I know we had many questions about weather today and classes releasing along with after school activities. I want you to know I’ve been watching the weather since last night. I was on calls with the NWS twice today to make sure about timing, wind, etc and take into account all the things when making decisions. These decisions are not made lightly.
Spring weather is here in Missouri, and with it comes the potential for severe storms and tornadoes. Please take a moment to review the linked information about our FEMA Tornado Safe Room, which is available year-round on the district website.
The FEMA Safe Room is opened during a Tornado Warning for residents who live within the designated Tornado Protection Zone (TPZ) shown on the linked map.
**Severe Weather Preparation:**
**🌦️ Tornado Watch** – Conditions are favorable for severe weather. Monitor weather updates and prepare.
• Gather medications
• Locate car keys
• Charge cell phones
• Review your family safety plan
**🌪️ Tornado Warning** – A tornado has been detected by radar or sighted. **Seek shelter immediately.**
• Go to a **basement, interior room, or The FEMA Safe Room if you live within the TPZ Zone
If you or someone in your household may need special assistance during severe weather (mobility concerns, medical alerts, service animals, etc.), please complete the Special Needs Form and return it to the Superintendent’s Office as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.

A Million Words!....Have you ever read a million words in nine months or less? That is exactly what we challenged our students to do. Richland Elementary has two outstanding students who have done just that! Cory and Jaxon accepted the challenge and successfully read A MILLION WORDS before the end of the year!

Students who successfully completed the Mark Twain Award Nominee Challenge read and passed five novels to earn lunch at Culver's! Mark Twain Award Nominee novels are chapter books chosen and voted on by Missouri students and teachers each year.

The "20 Book Challenge"...should it be accepted....was given to students at the beginning of the year. They were given a challenge grid with different book topics and genres to read and mark off. The books they read had to be in their reading level. Students also had to have a passing AR test to "mark" a challenge off.
Congratulations to these students who accepted the Challenge. They have earned a trip to the Branson Aquarium!
