The fifth and sixth grade classrooms had an extraordinary and unforgettable experience for their students as they explored the significance of Patriot Day and its profound impact on families and communities across our nation. The 6th graders from Mrs. Keib's class kicked off the day with a dynamic STEAM event where they channeled their problem-solving skills, creativity, and teamwork to design and construct a 3-D memorial for 9/11. They started by brainstorming and sketching their ideas before bringing their concepts to life in a tangible model. Meanwhile, 5th graders from Ms. Meunier's class engaged in a more introspective activity, combining writing, art, and a comprehensive history lesson. The two grades rotated through these activities, ensuring that everyone could participate in the full range of experiences. A highlight of the day was our partnership with the military, which brought five soldiers to our school. The students were thrilled to see these heroes in person, and their excitement was palpable as the soldiers assisted with the activities, joined them for lunch and recess, and even took part in a spirited game of kickball. The soldiers' involvement not only made the day special but also provided a personal connection to the values of patriotism and service. The day was a powerful reminder of the unity and resilience that emerged in the wake of one of our nation’s most tragic events. It served as a vital lesson in how patriotism is woven into the fabric of our country, and how everyone, not just those in uniform, contributed to the collective effort to support and rebuild. This experience underscored the importance of teaching our students about both the tragedy and the unity that followed, helping them understand the broader impact on our society and the enduring spirit of patriotism.
